The WEC has announced that WEC 43 will take place September 2nd in Youngstown, Ohio. The main event is scheduled to be an interim lightweight title fight between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson.
Earlier reports from The Youngstown Vindicator stated that current lightweight champion Jamie Varner will be stripped of his title and may never fight again. However, WEC General Manager and Founder Reed Harris stated that the reporter took his quotes out of context and that this fight would instead be for the interim title. He added that there was no timetable for Varner’s return, and it is possible that he may not come back.
