Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez set for UFC 104??
According to a report on fiveouncesofpain.com, rising heavyweight prospects Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez have agreed to fight at UFC 104. The fight will determine the number one contender to the heavyweight title, and the winner will face the winner of the Brock Lesnar/Frank Mir fight at UFC 100.
UFC 104 takes place on October 24th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Also on the card is the light heavyweight title fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Carwin and Velasquez have been steadily moving up the ranks of the UFC heavyweight division. Carwin last beat one-time heavyweight title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga by first round TKO at UFC 96 in March, while Velasquez dominated Cheick Kongo in their fight at UFC 99 last month.

Whoa now this is what I’m talkin about. Cain is a really good fighter with excellent ground control but Kongo exposed his standup game. Carwin is a MONSTER who is just as good on the mat and looks to be a better and heavy handed striker. I think Shane is ready to fight for the strap now. Cain is gonna be a great fighter but at this point in time Carwin might be a bit too much
I think you’re right on. If I had to pick now (Thank goodness I don’t) I’d go with Carwin. I think Velasquez may end up being the better fighter in the long run, but I don’t think he’s quite ready for Carwin’s power. We’ll see.
