Despite various sources saying that he passed away, former UFC fighter Kimo Leopoldo is in fact alive. Rumors of Kimo’s demise started from a post on the popular MMA message board “The Underground.” From there, various other sites confirmed his death, including TMZ.com and the O.C. Register. However, Yahoo Sports MMA writer Kevin Iole confirmed that Kimo is in fact, alive. From Iole and his Twitter page:

Kimo Leopoldo is NOT DEAD, I’ve been told by his attorney. More details to folo.

More from Kevin Iole’s Twitter:

Also, from Kimo’s publicist, apparently he was sleeping and woke up to learn of reports of his death.

From what I’ve been told, and this is not finalized, Kimo will hold a conference call tomorrow.

Kimo made his debut at UFC 3, entering the ring carrying a large wooden cross on his back and then battling UFC legend Royce Gracie in a classic fight. Although Gracie eventually got the submission, Kimo wore him down so much that Gracie was unable to continue in the tournament. After that fight, Kimo made five more appearances in the UFC, going 2-3. His last UFC fight was at UFC 48 in a TKO loss to Ken Shamrock.

In recent years, Kimo has had problems with drug abuse. He tested positive for anabolic steroids after his fight at UFC 48, and also tested positive for steriods in July 2006 prior to a bout with Bas Rutten in the World Fighting Alliance. On February 16th, 2009, Kimo was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) while wearing a police jumpsuit.  His MMA record stands at 10-7-1.
