Matt Hughes signs contract extension with the UFC

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes announced today that he has signed a contract extension with the company. The deal should take him to the end of his MMA career, ensuring that he will finish his career in the UFC.
Here’s what Hughes had to say on his blog:
Last week I went out to Vegas and I signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, which is much like my last contract. I also brought up the fact that I wanted to do a hunting show and they thought that would be a good thing. They still have to find out who, where and when my next fight will be and I will try to post that info ASAP. Nothing is decided yet, so anything you might be reading on the internet right now is just rumors and speculation. However, one name the UFC did bring up is a person I’ve never fought before.
Hughes last fought at UFC 98, beating rival Matt Serra by unanimous decision. There had been talk that a rematch may be on the way, but nothing has been confirmed at this point. Hughes had also said in the past that he’d be willing to fight Anderson Silva at middleweight, but that fight basically has no shot at happening.
Hughes is 43-7 in his MMA career, and an impressive 16-5 in his UFC career. He’s won the welterweight title on two separate occasions, and has successfully defended the belt a combined seven times. However, he is just 2-2 in his past four fights, with wins over Serra and Chris Lytle, and losses to Georges St. Pierre and Thiago Alves.
