Leites & McCrory cut, brought back, then cut again

It’s been a tough 24 hours for UFC veterans Thales Leites and Tamdan McCrory. Yesterday I reported that both fighters were among those cut by matchmaker Joe Silva and the UFC after UFC 101. However, for awhile today, it appeared that they would be brought back to the UFC, only to be told late this afternoon that they would remain cut.

Yahoo MMA writer Kevin Iole reported earlier today:

UFC president Dana White wasn’t aware of plans to drop both Leites and welterweight Tamdan McCrory and said he would reverse those decisions.

They won’t be cut, White said Thursday night.

Then, late this afternoon, Iole issued a follow-up column:

However, after discussing the move internally on Friday, White changed his mind and opted to let Leites and McCrory go.

“We are cutting them,” White said Friday afternoon

Although I’m sure McCrory and Leites were listening to their own management rather than internet reports, it still had to be a rough day for them. McCrory has stated that he’s already had offers from other organizations, and will likely move up to middleweight. Leites shouldn’t be out of work very long either.

The UFC’s roster has grown recently with the addition of numerous fighters from Affliction whose contracts transferred to the UFC. They have also added fighters such as Tito Ortiz and Vladimir Matyushenko to the fold in recent weeks, forcing the roster trimming.
