Chuck Liddell to take some time off to ‘heal his brain’

There has been much speculation about Chuck Liddell’s future in recent weeks. There have been reports linking him to the main event of UFC 103 against Rich Franklin. Also, Dana White has backed off his statements saying that Chuck should retire which fueled speculation that Liddell would fight one more time and finish off his UFC contract. However, those reports can all be put to rest now. Here’s what Chuck had to say to Si.com about his future plans:
Said Liddell of retirement: “I haven’t personally made a decision one way or the other.”
“Hopefully my brain can heal over time,” he continued. “The shot last fight is something that normally wouldn’t hurt me. I think I need at least some time off from getting hit. I’m going to take time off sparring then. I’ll train still. Still gonna roll. I’ll probably do a little more jiu-jitsu than normal because I like it. It’s fun.”
He also told Si.com that the earliest he would consider a return would be April of 2010 by which point Liddell will be 40 years old. Hopefully he will enjoy the retired life enough by then to officially retire. The last thing Liddell needs is to take another beating like he has been in four of his past five fights.

I’ve always been a Chuck fan and it’s hard to see him get beat the way he has been lately. Unfortunately for him the brain doesn’t heal. Once it’s been reset it keeps happening more frequently. I hope the time off does some good for him
Yeah, it’s a bad idea to come back. I’m hoping that with him taking this time off for his “brain to heal,” he realizes he doesn’t need to do this anymore. He’s in good shape financially and should be valuing his health more than anything at this point.
Looks like Chuck is gonna be inducted into the UFC HOF too. Well deserving
