Brock Lesnar Pulls Out of UFC 106 Fight With Shane Carwin

According to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole, Brock Lesnar has been forced to pull out of his scheduled title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106. The report indicates that Lesnar has been battling an illness for almost a month, and hasn’t been able to train for the contest. Here’s what UFC president Dana White had to say:
He said he’s never been this sick in his life. He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.
Meanwhile, Shane Carwin expressed via Twitter that he wasn’t happy that he learned the news from the media instead of the boss himself:
It’s dissappinting hearing about your career and life through the media. Nothing from the boss’s yet.
I would imagine that the UFC would try to reschedule this fight for January 2nd’s UFC 108. That card currently is rumored to have a main event of Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort for the UFC middleweight title. However, there are lingering doubts about Silva’s ability to fight as well as his interest in taking the fight against Belfort, who he doesn’t see as a big draw.
UFC 106 features a co-main event between Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz. That contest could serve as the main event for the card, considering the lack of options the UFC has in scheduling a new main bout less than a month away from the event.
***UPDATE*** A new update from Shane Carwin’s Twitter Page:
I just heard from Jason. Looks like it is posponed till Jan 2. I had h1ni myself and I understand how devastaing it can be.
The previous report from Iole stated he did not believe that Lesnar had the H1N1 Flu, but Carwin is under the belief that he does. Keep checking back for more information.
