Anderson Silva’s planned title defense against Vitor Belfort has been delayed several times with various reports on the health of Silva’s elbow. After having surgery to remove bone chips, Silva was expected to be ready to face Belfort at UFC 108 in January. However, Silva said recently that the injury wasn’t healing properly, and that he wouldn’t be able to fight in January. The fight was tenatively rescheduled for UFC 109 in February, though that date is not happening either.

According to various reports, Silva’s recovery from surgery continues to slow him down. It appears that Silva won’t be back in the Octagon until around April. There has been no announcement made from Silva or his manager, Ed Soares. Soares denied that there was a problem with Silva’s elbow prior to the surgery, but did join Silva in disputing the validity of Belfort’s title shot, saying the one-time training partner of Silva’s hand’t earned a shot yet.
