Alves says his weight cutting is ahead of schedule

GSP Thiago

Despite reports yesterday that Thiago Alves was in danger of not making weight for his UFC 100 welterweight title shot against Georges St. Pierre, Alves told mmaweekly.com today that his weight cutting is actually ahead of schedule and that he currently weighs 183lbs.

“That’s really good for me.  Usually I get here (at) 188, 189, and I’m amazed with myself. 183, I’m like whoa. Everybody from the UFC was like, wow, I can’t believe it.”

“I’ve just been doing what I’m supposed to do more professionally. No cheating on myself, things like that. Before, (it was like), ah, I’m going to skip one day. It would always catch up with me later on. I’d leave everything to the last minute.”

I’m trusting Thiago’s word that he is within striking distance of the 170lb limit. Hopefully he has taken his training seriously for this fight. A five round war with a guy like GSP when you’ve had to cut a ton of weight a few days prior to the fight could get ugly. However, if he is at 183 lbs right now, he is in perfect position to come in at 170 on Friday and still be fresh for Saturday. Can’t wait for the fight!

lol…I actually set and over/under bet with friends about how many lbs over Alves will weigh in at. I set it at 3. ATT is notorious for not making weight but I hope they get their shit right this time. This is the biggest fight that camps had to date. I still think GSP is the best all around fighter in the biz right now and has looked alot more focused since his slip up against Serra.
