Affliction cancels August 1st event

In a stunning turn of events, Affliction has cancelled their Affliction: Trilogy event planned for August 1st. Josh Barnett, scheduled to fight Fedor Emelianenko in the main event, tested positive for steroids and was unable to get a license to fight in the event. Affliction had been trying to find a replacement for Barnett, and candidates included Vitor Belfort, Brett Rogers and Jeff Monson.
There has been no word on whether or not Affliction was going to reschedule the event for a later date. MMA Ground N’ Pound will keep you informed on the latest developments.

It’s sad that this had to happen. Both Affliction shows were tremendous and the 3rd looked like it was gonna be great too. I really like variety in mma and with Affliction goin down I think it hurts the sport. Everywhere I look its UFC this and UFC that. Some kid saw me carrying my training gear and asked me if I train in UFC to which I said no I train Pride FC =-/
The problem with Affliction was that they just couldn’t afford to keep paying the salaries they were paying. It was insane. $800,000 for Tim Sylvia to get KO’d…$1,500,000 for Arlovski to get KO’d. There was no way they could survive long term with that business model. Strikeforce seems to be doing things the right way however.

Exactly! Affliction was stuffing staggering amounts of money into these guys pockets. They just didn’t promote or market the fighting product good enough. Strikeforce a great product. I hope they are able to succeed. Hell even Dana likes them lol
And yea I think the kid gave me a strange look and may have thought I was gay with the whole Pride thing lmao
